Opinion: Questions about Ginebra

Ginebra again fell short of the
Championship title as they lose to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters with a
score of 89-102. They we're frustrated by the defense and forced them to play
outside their games. I believe that Ginebra will
prepare for this. They will bounce back once more and prove that NSD spirit
still lives. I prepared questions about Ginebra and gave my opinion about them.
1. Should they trade players?
They shouldn't trade players to
improve their chemistry. Even though there is a lack of three-point shooting in
this team, Sol Mercado, L.A. Tenorio or Scottie Thompson can fill the gap if they
can once again sharpen their accuracy. Ginebra can practice its players in
shooting beyond the arc. In this way they can maintain chemistry and still
solve their problem with regards to outside shooting.
2. Is it time to give Mark Caguioa lesser minutes?
Caguioa should still receive the
minutes that he has right now. He contributes well in the defensive end
especially in the transition and shoots mid-range jumpers accurately. Mark
already accepted his new role to support their twin towers. He also helps Ginebra
win by playing efficient basketball. Caguioa doesn't force a lot of shots and runs
to the loose ball every time.
3. Will they change import?
I think Othyus Jeffers will stay
as their import. The opposing imports of some teams will be smaller next
conference and it will be easier for Jeffers to play since he doesn't have to
deal with a Pierre Henderson-Niles or an Arinze Onuaku. Jeffers doesn't want to
score. He simply wants to win. Whenever he struggles in scoring, he does his
best to help in other ways like defending and play making.
4. Will Tim Cone remain as their Head Coach?
I do think that the most
successful coach in the PBA History will still maintain his helm as the Head
Coach of the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. He transformed this team into a
dangerous team to watch out for. They just fell short a little bit. But they
will bounce back and try every conference until they master the triangle. If
that time comes, Ginebra will have great success.
5. Can they win the Governor's Cup Title?
I'm not saying that they are sure
to win it but I am saying that Ginebra has a great shot at the championship
this time. They will be able to do this if they can practice their outside
shooting and bring out the Never Say Die spirit every game. It is nearly two
months before the next conference starts and a huge difference is possible to
happen to this team. Just always remember that it's not how you start it; it's
how you finish it. If Ginebra improves a lot through this long break, they will
also improve their chances to reach the finals and even win the title.
