2017 Free Agent targets for the Philadelphia 76ers

2017 Free Agent targets for the Philadelphia 76ers

It has not been an easy three seasons to deal for 76er fans, but after drafting Ben Simmons in 2016 #1this year to add to an already loaded frontcourt that includes Joel Embiid, Jahlil Okafor, and Nerlens Noel, the team is ready to focus on winning.  So it is clear that Bryan Colangelo is ready to get this team back on track.  With all of the young talent Philadelphia has, they will still have enormous cap space in the league, making it possible to attract free agents after this season.  Let’s take a look at potential free agents that the Colangelo should target in 2017.
Redick is one of the elite sharpshooters in the league, and he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2017.  The 76ers are very weak at the shooting guard position.  Redick solves the problem with his ability to spread the floor and open things up for Ben Simmons to operate with the ball.  It will also free up Okafor in the post.  One of the 76ers biggest issues last year was that when Okafor caught the ball in the post, opposing teams could easily double team him without worrying too much about an outside threat.  Redick will cost Colangelo some money, but it will be well spent.
Kyle Korver
Korver plays very similarly to Redick.  He is an elite shooter like Redick who will help space the floor, which has been an issue in Philadelphia for the past few seasons. Another plus with Korver is that he is solid on the defensive side of the ball. Known as a relatively good defender, it will help Coach Brett Brown develop a solid defensive group to his team. Maybe with his help, the sixers can play better, and ticket prices will end up as high as Warriors Tickets.
Iguodala would be a huge pick up for the 76ers and would fit right into the team as both a contributor and mentor.  He also started his career in Philadelphia, and the fans would embrace him with open arms.  He is one of the best "3 and D" guys in the league, and he would help take a lot of pressure off of Simmons in his early career.  His ability to lock down the opposing team’s best player while also being able to run the fast break and knock down open shots would make the 76ers a scary team to match up with.
The point guard may be the 76ers weakest position, and expect next summer the team throwing huge contracts at players available at the position.  Lowry has been very consistent point guard in the NBA over the past several years. He may be willing to come back to play for his home town.  He may be getting up there in age, but he would be an amazing signing for a young team in need of leadership and experience. It’s going to be hard to land a guy like Lowry, he’s more likely to help make the Knicks better, but we all know Knicks Tickets are already pretty high.
Patty Mills

The 76ers need a guard who can shoot from the perimeter.  Going after Patty Mills would be a good move for their depth at the position, but I would not expect him to be a starter.  He is a nice off the bench option to create offense with the second unit that would likely include some of the defensive players such as Nerlens Noel and Jerami Grant.
