Jahil Okafor Traded to Nets: Who's the Winner?

76ers send Okafor, Nik Stauskas and a draft pick for Trevor Booker

At 13-10, the Philadelphia 76ers are already looking good for a potential return to the playoffs as they are currently in 5th place in the Eastern Conference thanks to the sensational performances by Joel Embiid and their super rookie, Ben Simmons. They are the top rebounding team as of the moment and they are the 3rd best team in assists per game. But more than the stats, the 76ers' early success in the 2017-2018 season has been revolving around the 3-word sentence: "Trust the Process" It's simply about trust. Trust towards the system. Trust towards their coaches and teammates. Most importantly, trust towards themselves that they can beat any team.

However, despite the success of Philadelphia in the early goings of the season, there's one player in the Sixers' bench who wanted to leave the team because he felt he wouldn't be able to showcase his talents. His name is Jahil Okafor. Even though he's the top pick in the 2015 draft, Okafor's career with the Sixers hasn't gone all-out as he only averaged 17 points per game in his rookie year, 11 points in the next year until that number went down furthermore to 5 points per game this season. Mind you, folks. He only played two games for the Sixers this season before the trade was announced.

Now that Jahil Okafor's trade request has been granted by the Sixers, sending him alongside Nik Stauskas and a draft to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Trevor Booker,  who is the winner in this trade?

If we are to look at the numbers, Trevor Booker played in 18 games for the Nets this season and he is averaging 10 points per game in 21 minutes of action. He's also averaging 6 rebounds per game. Now, compare Booker's numbers with the combined numbers of both Jahil Okafor and Nik Stauskas, then you will see that the Sixers have actually gotten more. Booker will be a good addition to the Sixers.

Jahil Okafor's career is a roller coaster ride for him but his trade should benefit him, one way or another. It will allow him to have a fresh start, an opportunity to revive his career.

On the other hand, the Sixers have finally dealt with the Okafor issue. They can now focus on winning more games.
