ALASKA’S veteran team captain Jeffrey Cariaso has finally called it quits after 15 years of playing in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
Cariaso, an integral part of Alaska’s 1996 grandslam team under current coach Tim Cone, said to his statement entitled “Every good thing comes to an end” that he was planning to retire since the start of the PBA 35th season.

“I’ve always said that I want to be the one to say when it’s time. It’s my career which I worked hard to achieve and establish myself in this league, so I feel it’s only fitting that I walk away on my own terms,” said Cariaso in his statement.

Cariaso began playing in Nikon Electric Fan and Instafood, which were former teams in the Philippine Basketball League—1993 to 1994. He joined Alaska during the 1995 PBA draft after the Aces traded Stevenson Solomon to Ginebra.

He won the Rookie of the Year in 1995 and he moved to Mobiline (now Talk ‘N Text) in 1997, and then in Tanduay and Coca-Cola before returning to Alaska in 2005.

Meanwhile, the Ginebra Kings’ veteran Erik Menk grabbed the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week honor for the period May 10 to 16 for helping his team make back-to-back wins to keep their hope for an automatic semifinal slot alive.

Menk, who averaged 16 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists, bested Kelly Williams for the honor.
