Beermen hope to end losing run

SAN MIGUEL Beer faces Talk ‘N Text Friday in the 36th Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.


This will be the first time, the two teams will meet again after the Finals of the recent Philippine Cup won by the Tropang Texters, 4-2 last month.

The Beermen, who are in the verge of virtual eliminations with a low 1-5 slate, need to win over the Tropang Texters in their 7:30 p.m. encounter. Meralco, fresh from its back-to-back wins, takes on the Alaska Aces in the first game at 5 p.m.

As new import Jason Davis expressed readiness to play, the pressure now is on David Young to deliver what was expected of him. Davis, who was measured by the league at 6’2” and 9/16, was just told to wait for his turn because the coaching staff headed by Ato Agustin has to decide yet whether to replace Young. The latter failed to produce a victory for the Beermen since taking the place of Ira Brown.

“There is no decision yet to change import at the moment. We may still give David Young a chance to prove his worth. But Jason Davis is already here and on standby status,” said Agustin.

After winning the first conference, the Tropang Texters seem serious in their quest for a grand slam victory. The team currently leads with PHL Smart Gilas (both have a 5-1 card).
