Why did Cotto chose Austin Trout instead of Pacquiao


We knew that Miguel Cotto was being considered as a match up for Manny Pacquiao this December but why did Cotto chose to fight an unknown champion in Austin Trout?  its for the WBA Super Welterweight World Champion? its easier and he knew that he would not win against Pacquiao.

Cotto guaranteed a victory: “Thank you all for coming today.  We are very happy to see you all and (I thank you for) your great support.  I can only say that I will train as hard as I can like I always do, and on December 1, I will become world champion again.  I’ll guarantee you all that I will return to Puerto Rico as a champion.”

“Showdown: Cotto vs. Trout” is a 12 round battle between Four-Time and Three-Division World Champion Miguel Cotto and WBA Super Welterweight World Champion Austin Trout taking place on December 1 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.  The event is promoted by Miguel Cotto Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions in association with Greg Cohen Promotions, sponsored by Corona and televised on SHOWTIME.

The card, at the ProBox TV Events Center in Plant City, Florida, is led by two featherweights attempting to climb the rankings Angelo Leo (23-1, 11 KOs), who trains out of Las Vegas, Nevada, made weight at 125.8 lbs. His opponent, Eduardo Baez (23-5-2, 9 KOs), came in slightly lighter at 125.4 lbs. They will contest a 10-round main event. Leo is a former WBO super-bantamweight champion. He is riding a three-fight winning streak; his past two fights were broadcast on ProBox TV. Leo is ranked seventh by the WBA and 13th by the IBF.
