Jeremy Lin’s ‘Linsanity’ Revisited

After his historical rise to NBA stardom, the biggest sports story of 2013 --Jeremy Lin, once again unleashed the Linsanity spirit when he dropped 35 points in the Hornet’s recent battle against Toronto Raptors.

Lin became the first NBA player to score at least 20 points and have seven assists in each of his first five starts. Lin scored 89, 109, and 136 points in his first three, four, and five career starts, respectively, all three of which are the most by any player since the merger between the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the NBA in 1976–77.

In his 12 starts before the All-Star break in 2013, Lin averaged 22.5 points and 8.7 assists, and New York had a 7-0 winning streak record. He played in the Rising Stars Challenge during NBA All-Star Weekend. He was omitted from the original Rising Stars roster, but was added after his sudden rise to stardom. Some media outlets—including USA Today, Los Angeles Times, and CBSSports.com—stated that he deserved to play in the All-Star Game.

He made 136 points in his first five games as a starter surpassing Shaquille O’ Neal’s record at 129. He had 25 points against the new jersey nets, 25 points as a starter versus the Utah Jazz, 23 points against Washington Wizards, 38 points against the 16-time NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers and outscored Kobe Bryant, 20 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves, and 27 points against the Toronto Raptors, wherein he scored a game winning three-point shot with half a second to play. Now that’s LINSANITY!

His rags-to-riches Lin-derella story is enough to inspire millions of people who dream to make it someday in their chosen field. It took a Lin to reawaken a city that never sleeps and energize the whole of basketball world again, not seen since the Michael Jordan era. For all the Lin-sanity fever, for being a Lin-spiration and for popping up creative Linisms in the net, and for rejuvenating the passion for basketball worldwide, his meteoric rise to stardom is indeed something to celebrate and give honor with.

After New York Knicks, he went to the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, and now with the Charlotte Hornets.
