Shingo Wake-Jonathan Guzman for IBF belt; Winner will face Albert Pagara next?
The IBF strap became vacant when British fighter Carl Frampton vacated the belt to move up in featherweight to face the WBA "Super" Champion Leo Santa Cruz, July 30 at Barclays Center in New York City.
Wake (20-4-2, 12 KO) dropped his OPBF Super bantamweight title to enter the IBF fight against Guzman. Wake defended the OPBF title five times and coming off a ten fights winning streak. He won an IBF title eliminator last June against Thailand's Mike Tawatchai by the way of 12 rounds decision victory.
Unbeaten Guzman who possessed heavy hands with a perfect record of 21 wins all coming by knock out is fresh from 8th round stoppage win over Mexican veteran Daniel Rosas which promoted him in number 2 spot in IBF rankings.
The fighters are ranked #1 (Wake) and #2 (Guzman) by the IBF, respectively. Filipino Albert Pagara is in number 3 spot which means that he will be automatically promoted as number 1 contender and will become the mandatory challenger whoever wins the fight. Pagara is scheduled to face ex Nonito Donaire's foe tough Mexican Cesar Juarez this coming July 9 in California USA.
