AU Braves spitfire point guard Guilmer Dela Torre is NCAA Jr's newest toast
By: Paolo Manuel C. Fule
His
speed on the court can be likened to that of an unstoppable bullet train in
full throttle. Better mark his name in the halls of future basketball stars of this
country because he is definitely the real deal. Meet Guilmer B. Dela Torre. The
5’ 9” cager who plays shooting guard and point guard for the Arellano
University Braves is indeed a revelation in this year’s NCAA.
In
his debut for the NCAA, he rattled 18 points in their game against LPU Junior
Pirates, while he registered 13 points against five-time champions San Beda Red
Cubs. Last year, he led his team with 33 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists and 4
steals against their rival Letran Squires. He made his career high 78 points
during an inter barangay 13-under game in Bataan. This year, he was one of the participants
for the Slam Rising Stars Challenge held at Mandaluyong City.
Born
November 25, 1997 in Balut 2, Pilar, Bataan to Maricar Dela Torre and Guillermo
Dela Torre, Guilmer hopes to make it someday in the pros, and what better way
than to start in the NCAA.
Guilmer
is a student athlete so he learns to manage is basketball and studies. “If it’s
training time, I am focused on my training. For my studies, I make sure to ask
my classmates or teachers
about
the lessons or activities I missed”, quipped the cager from Bataan.
His
favorite shot is teardrop shot like that of PJ Simon’s. His favorite players
include all-time great Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls, Ateneo’s Kiefer Isaac
Ravena, AU Chief’s John Pinto, and San Mig Coffee’s PJ Simon of the PBA. His ambition
in life is to finish his studies and for his dreams to become a reality.
