FIVE-TIME NBA CHAMPION TIM DUNCAN RETIRES FROM THE NBA
SAN ANTONIO (July 11, 2016) - Five-time NBA champion and San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan announced retirement after 19 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs.
Tim Duncan was drafted first overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft and became a key player which brought success in the San Antonio Spurs franchise. He joins Kareem Abdul-Jabber as the only players to at least record 26,000 points, 15,000 rebounds and 3,000 blocks in his career.
Along with five NBA championship trophies, Duncan's achievements includes winning the 1998 Rookie of the Year, Two NBA MVP trophies and three NBA Finals MVP.
Duncan ties Kobe Bryant with five championships. With Tim Duncan's retirement, an era has really ended. Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant are two of the most iconic players during the 2000 era.
