Despite a disappointing end to the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup campaign for the Philippines, another history is about to be made on Philippine football when Global FC will become the first Philippine team to participate in the prestigious AFC Champions League where they will enter the competition in the preliminary round 1 where it was confirmed that they will face Singapore's Tampines Rovers, Should they past Rovers. waiting for them in the next round is Australia's Brisbane Roar.

If ever Global FC will be beaten by Tampines Rovers, there is still the AFC Cup to participate in for them as they are already ensured of a group stage slot on that competition if ever they failed to reach the group stages of the AFC Champions League. This participation of Global FC alone is a proof on how the football in the Philippines are improving in each year that passes.

So despite the disappointing early exit on the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup, the Philippines will be busy next year as they will participate in the third round of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers and also the expected first season of the first professional football league in the Philippines the Philippines Football League.
