Highlights:Import's Poor Performance Didn't Matter as Beermen Made it Rain Outside to Easily Defeat Phoenix
SMB advances to the semi-finals of the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup.
This headline must have been written even before the jump ball. Heading into the game, Phoenix Fuel Masters must have been hoping that somehow JunMar Fajardo and Charles Rhodes doesn't play as good as they were playing all conference long. In a way, they got their wish holding Rhodes to his conference-low with just 14 points and JunMar Fajardo at least did not do as much with 15 points and only 8 rebounds.
With Beermen import taking a backseat, the rest of the players stepped up. Cabagnot scored 20 points including 6 three-pointers on a 50% shooting. Marcio Lassiter joined him in the three-point parade contributing a total of 26 points with 5 coming from downtown. It was a great shooting night for the Beermen, even Ronald Tubid joined in the fun scoring a total of 14 points, 3 of which a three-pointer. They made it rain tonight.
Phoenix had no answer for the rampaging Beermen as a couple of their best players including Matthew Wright and Cyrus Baguio could not find their usual rhythm scoring a combined 16 points on a 6/17 (35%) shooting.
The Beermen dominated the night and led all the way to a 15-96 victory.
They are now waiting for the victor between Star and Rain or Shine for the semi-final series.
