Let's Look Back at One of the Best High Flyers in the PBA: Vergel Meneses

There is no one else in the PBA that has replicated or even came close to how Vergel Meneses played during his time in the PBA.

Being one of the best offensive players and a high flyer in his own rights, Vergel was one of the first local PBA players who captured the imagination of the fans. Two other players that came to mind is Samboy Lim and Bong Alvarez but Vergel Meneses in my eyes is the better player of them all.

His high flying, circus acts were a marvel to behold in the PBA. He was an efficient player who led his team to championships. He is one of those players who can match up the offensive contribution of an import.

Vergel Meneses is now 48 years old and he is currently a coach at Jose Rizal College.

The card, at the ProBox TV Events Center in Plant City, Florida, is led by two featherweights attempting to climb the rankings Angelo Leo (23-1, 11 KOs), who trains out of Las Vegas, Nevada, made weight at 125.8 lbs. His opponent, Eduardo Baez (23-5-2, 9 KOs), came in slightly lighter at 125.4 lbs. They will contest a 10-round main event. Leo is a former WBO super-bantamweight champion. He is riding a three-fight winning streak; his past two fights were broadcast on ProBox TV. Leo is ranked seventh by the WBA and 13th by the IBF. He has made it clear he wants to become a two-division world champion. Baez fought Emanuel Navarrete for the WBO featherweight title.
