Filipino boxing star John Riel Casimero—known for his exciting fighting style and tasteless social media antics—may have finally met his match outside the ring, as American boxer Elijah Pierce clapped back with some spicy words of his own. It’s a rare sight lately, given Casimero’s near one-year absence from the sport.
Pierce, meanwhile, has been building momentum. He recently scored an impressive knockout victory over Filipino contender Michael Dasmarinas. Prior to that, he also stopped Mike Plania and Arthur Villanueva (both Filipino) by knockout. With Casimero rumored to be eyeing a move up to 126 lbs due to ongoing weight issues, this potential clash becomes all the more intriguing.
Since parting ways with MP Promotions, Casimero has yet to secure a significant fight. If a showdown with Pierce materializes, it would be a true test for the "Angas ng Pilipinas."
Casimero who recently took to social media and claimed he would "make Elijah Pierce cry," the American didn't hesitate to fire back with an even harsher response—saying he’d knock out the loudmouth Filipino and calling him “too small,” even threatening to “cradle him to sleep.”
It’s a spicy back-and-forth that has captured the attention of fans, especially in the Philippines. However, Casimero’s troubled past, including tumultuous relationships with former promoters, may be the biggest hurdle to making this fight happen. Elijah Pierce is managed by Knuckleheads Promotions under the Gibbons umbrella—an organization unlikely to extend an offer given Casimero’s current status and minimal upside at age 36.
The only glimmer of hope comes from recent claims by Casimero’s camp—particularly his brother, Jayson—that two major promoters are currently in a tug-of-war to sign the former world champion. If one of those parties gets a deal done and pushes for the fight, fans might just see it materialize.
Personally, I understand the frustration of Casimero’s loyal supporters after a string of false promises and fakefight announcements. At this point, fans just want to see him back in the ring—regardless of the opponent. Given his long layoff and apparent weight gain, a tune-up fight might even be necessary before taking on someone like Pierce.
In the end, Casimero vs. Pierce is a fun and explosive match-up—but sadly, it’s one that may live only in the realm of social media. I truly hope I’m wrong.
