Hong Kong’s boxing icon Rex “The Wonder Kid” Tso made a triumphant return to the professional ring, scoring a fifth-round knockout victory over Filipino veteran Vergilio “Maton” Silvano on Saturday night at the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City.
The undefeated Tso (23-0) had been inactive since October 2017, when he defeated former world champion Kohei Kono in Hong Kong. After a long hiatus of nearly eight years, which included a stint in the amateur circuit in pursuit of an Olympic berth, Tso proved he has not lost his punching power. He floored Silvano in the fifth round, forcing the referee to wave off the contest.
Silvano, a former IBF world title challenger and WBO Oriental champion, came in with experience and toughness, but the younger and sharper Tso controlled the fight from start to finish.
The comeback was made possible under the banner of RCT Hong Kong, led by trainer-manager Lennon Tsoi, who is spearheading Tso’s campaign for another run at a world title.
The victory not only extends Tso’s perfect professional record but also reignites excitement among fans who still see him as one of Asia’s most popular fighters in the lighter weight classes.
At ringside, Tso also caught up with Pow Salud of Powcast Sports, highlighting the Filipino media’s close coverage of the event.
