BARAS, RIZAL — The World Sikaran Brotherhood of the Philippines (WSBP) is set to conduct the 62nd National Sikaran Tournament on June 12–13, 2026 at the Baras Municipal Gymnasium, located in the historic municipality recognized as the Home of Sikaran.

The national event forms part of the organization’s celebration of its 68th year of preserving and promoting Sikaran, marking one of the longest-running Sikaran tournaments in the country and in the world.

Founded in 1958 by Meliton C. Geronimo Sr., also known as “Mayor Latigo,” later portrayed on screen by Eddie Garcia, the organization continues its commitment to strengthening Sikaran through organized competition, instruction, cultural preservation, and nationwide chapter development.

Recognized as the National Sports Association (NSA) for Sikaran by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), the World Sikaran Brotherhood of the Philippines remains active in advancing organizational standards, athlete development, officiating systems, and the continued propagation of Sikaran across the country.

The tournament is expected to gather delegations from nine regions and 43 local government units nationwide, bringing together World Sikaran practitioners, athletes, coaches, instructors, referees, officials, and supporters in a two-day celebration of Filipino martial arts, sportsmanship, and unity.

Leading this year’s national gathering is WSBP President Meliton Geronimo Jr., son and successor of Grandmaster Meliton C. Geronimo Sr., who is respectfully addressed within the organization as “Pantas.” He is expected to personally attend and oversee the conduct of the national tournament alongside senior officials and organizational representatives.

Held in line with the observance of Philippine Independence Day, the tournament also serves to honor the continuing role of Filipino martial arts in preserving discipline, respect, sportsmanship, culture, and national identity for future generations.

Aside from competition, the activity will also serve as a national gathering of chapters and practitioners committed to the continuing development and propagation of Sikaran both locally and internationally.

The tournament carries the theme:

“68 YEARS STRONG: From Baras to the World, Preserving Legacy, Forging Champions.”
