Obama now has time to meet Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines – With the calming of Egypt after thousands of demonstrators brought down Hosni Mubarak's 30-year rule, it looks like a meeting between boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao and US President Barack Obama is now possible.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum revealed this himself, suggesting that the US President can now sway a little from international matters and focus on meeting the Filipino boxer.

"With a stunning end of the 18-day revolution in Egypt, the 'chance-meeting' of Manny Pacquiao with US President Barrack Obama is likely to happen," Arum said in an Examiner.com report.

Pacquiao has just begun his press tour for his much-anticipated clash with former world champ "Sugar" Shane Mosley, who he will trade punches with this coming May in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 2 boxers will be heading to Las Vegas and New York next week.

Pacquiao, also the congressman of the lone district of Sarangani, earlier revealed "premature" plans to go visit the White House.

Arum, however, said that Team Pacquiao will now try to pursue the meeting with Obama after their stop in the Big Apple.

"We'll be heading to Washington [DC] after the Pacquiao-Mosley press conference in New York," the promoter said.

Pacquiao will first meet with Nevada Senator Harry Reid, whom he campaigned for last November.

Arum said the US Senate Majority Leader Reid will also have a word regarding the meeting.

Earlier, Pacquiao disclosed he would be very thrilled to meet Obama face-to-face.

More than that, the boxer-politician said he will try to seek aid for Sarangani in their meeting.

"[Napa]Pag-isipan ko sasabihin ko... na matulungan ang province ko (I thought about what I’m going to tell him… to help my province)," Pacquiao had said.
