Featured Event: MANILA GREAT RUN 2016 (June 12, 2016 at Filinvest Alabang)
I have run many races since 2012 and some of them
have different features or crazy gimmicks. I have completed medals that form
into one (Run United Trilogy), splashed by assorted colored powders along the
way (Color Manila Run), struggled to reach the finish line just to beat the
Sub-1 hour cut-off time (Pinoy Fitness Sub-1 Challenge), seen participants pass various “military-like” obstacles, (Guerilla Race) or chased by terrifying
zombies (Outbreak Manila), and so much more.
However, this is the first time that I have seen
a race that will give running shorts (Yes, RUNNING SHORTS) to their
participants and provide a 2- leg race with a recovery session in between. I have never seen a competitive race being cut in half on the same date. Also, getting freebies in each run is something I’m used to,
but running shorts? This might one of the most unique ideas yet.
Introducing the “Manila Great Run Duo Road Race
2016”, a long distance running competition that features 2 legs: a 10k run and
a 5k run, with a conditioning recovery break in between. Runners will experience different body workouts and nutrition treats as they prepare for the
2nd leg of the race. The run is supported by Mizuno, a globally
renowned Japanese sportswear brand. Runners can expect quality items and an exciting race event!
Joining the run will also aid the pediatric
cancer patients of the Philippine General Hospital as one of MGR2016's charity beneficiaries and help increase the scholarship fund for high school students from selected schools in
Metro Manila. Help others while keeping your healthy lifestyle!

I’m quite into the design of the MGR2016 finisher
shirt. The shirt presents an aesthetic combination of simplicity and classiness. With a minimalist graphic
design and accented colors on the sleeve area, the finisher shirt of the MGR
fits right to the taste of simple runners like me. Good job to the designer
of MGR2016 shirt!
RACE SHORT (Pre- race Freebie)
I appreciate how the designer tried to pair the running short with the race singlet and finisher shirt. It's like having a complete set of uniform for the MGR 2016. Runners should also consider the idea that branded running shorts aren't cheap nowadays, much less given free. This idea of the organizers is quite a treat for all participants.

I am one of those runners who often run and train within central Metro Manila. Running around the Filinvest City will be a new route experience since the Skyway is the most common route offered by other races held in Alabang.
