This match saw the return to Stamford Bridge of Chelsea's former manager Jose Mourinho who is now the current manager of Manchester United. Mourinho hoping to silence the home side on his return but in just over 30 seconds they found themselves 1-0 down already after Pedro dribbled past De Gea in the box for an easy shot. Gary Cahill added another goal in 21st to doubled the lead of his team. Eden Hazard then scored a fantastic goal in the 62nd minute to make it 3-0 and to make the night even more worse for the returning Jose Mourinho. Ngolo Kante then scored a goal in the 70th minute after a good dribbling skills in the box. This defeat for Manchester United means that they were left behind in the current title race.

After winning the first 6 games of the league, but Man City has been winless on its next 3 games to lose its strong lead in the top of the league. Nathan Redmond put the Saints on top in the 27th minute after scoring a goal. Kelechi Iheanacho managed to salvaged an important point for the citizens when he scored in the 55th minute. The draw of Man City means that the top 5 of the league is only being separated by a single point.
