Horace Grant kept wearing goggles to make kids confident about theirselves

Horace Grant visit at NBA Store in Glorietta

Notable players who wore goggles during their NBA career includes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, Kurt Rambis, Thurl Bailey and the most intriguing one was Horace Grant.

Grant won four championships. Three with Michael Jordan and one with the most dominant duos ever, Shaquille O'neal and Kobe Bryant.

The four-time NBA champion wore the thick lens throughout his 17-year career and this thick lens is not only for his own benefit but for others too.

Grant explained in a Reddit AMA (ask me anything) why he wore the goggles besides from having a poor eyesight.

“I got them because I was legally blind,”
Grant said.

Then added,
“I wore em because of that for a few years. After a few years, I got Lasik surgery, but I kept wearing them without the prescription lenses because I had grandparents and parents come up to me and thank me for wearing them. Their kids and grand kids would get made fun of by wearing protective eye-wear playing sports, so I kept wearing them to help make it cool to wear goggles for the kids.”

Horace Grant went on to play 17 seasons in the NBA before retiring in 2004. He also made the All-Star Game in 1994. He have nephews currently playing in the NBA, Jerian  and Jerami Grant, players for the Bulls and Oklahoma City Thunder, respectively.

Horace Grant visited Manila in 2015 along with the Fil-Am NBA Rookie at that time, Jordan Clarkson and Trey Burke.
