OPBF (Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation) Super flyweight champion Rene "Commander" Dacquel is set to defend his title for the second time against Japanese contender Hyato Kimura (26-9,17) at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo Japan on July 19.
Rene Dacquel native of Manabo Abra captured the interim OPBF championship title after dethroning Thai fighter Ratthapon Sawangsoda in April 2016 then upgraded to full OPBF champion after Japanese Takuma Inoue vacated the title in late 2016. Dacquel surprisingly successful on his two consecutive title defenses that both held in Japan. He beat former world rated Go Onaga and Shota Kawaguchi and now scheduled to face another Japanese boxer on his third title defense.
Kimura is coming off a 5th round TKO win over debutant Thai Kasikrit Wanasutha in April. Kimura is a former Asia Pacific champion but had trouble in winning high level of competition. He suffered back to back defeats at the hand of Filipino boxers ex world champ Marlon Tapales and world contender Michael Dasmarinas in 2014.
