By Chris Williams: At today’s weigh-in, former WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s), looking really small compared to his Jewish opponent, weighed in at 153.5 for his bout against World Boxing Association junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KO’s) set for Yankee Stadium on Saturday night. Foreman, who looks much bigger and sturdier than Cotto, weighed in at 154.

Cotto is looking to capture this third world title in his nine-year pro career. Cotto has previously won titles in the light welterweight and welterweight divisions. However, it was easier before because Cotto wasn’t considered small at those weight classes. Although you could call Cotto on the small side for the welterweight division, he was still within the norm for most of the fighters he faced.

However, in moving up to the junior middleweight division to try and capture Foreman’s WBA title, Cotto is very short at 5′7″ compared to the taller and bigger 5′11″ Foreman. Cotto doesn’t think the size disadvantage will bother him in this fight. But it could very well be a huge problem for Cotto. It may be that Cotto is remembering how he dominated earlier in his career and hasn’t yet come to terms with the fact that he’s no longer dominating his fights like he used to do earlier in his career.

Other weights on the card:

Vanes Martirosyan 153.75, Joe Greene 151.5
