Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s tirade against Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao is an indication that the unbeaten American is scared of fighting him, according to an author of a forthcoming book about the 7-division world champion.

“I think these latest tirades for Mayweather show expression of insecurity, and maybe an expression of fear,” Gary Andrew Poole of TIME Magazine said in an interview with Gel Santos-Relos of ABS-CBN's Balitang America.

I don’t think he necessarily wants to fight Pacquiao when I watched that video...I thought also he didn’t really want to get in the ring with Pacquiao,” Poole added.

Poole is the author of a book on the boxer-politician, "Pacman: Behind the Scenes with Manny Pacquiao, the Greatest Pound-for-Pound Fighter in the World."

Poole said Mayweather’s rant, which has gone viral, is a total embarrassment for the American. .

“I think it’s embarrassing for boxing, its embarrassing for Mayweather, for Americans,” he said.

The writer noted that Pacquiao has gained a following in the US, and that the rant certainly paints a bad picture of Mayweather.

The American boxer, however, has already apologized for his racial slurs.

A lot of people adore Pacquiao in US, it just has a high level of embarrassment here. Mayweather is a world-class boxer but he's not showing much class,” said Poole.

In the video, Mayweather called the Filipino boxer “Poochiao,” "midget," and “yellow chump.”

“It’s been a bad soap opera that just keeps getting worse,” Poole added.

Book on Pacquiao

Poole said his book reveals a lot of things many Pacquiao fans are not aware of.

If you’re a Pacman fan you'll learn some things… [it gives] access to see Pacquiao, it will give a sense of being in the Wild Card Gym," he said. "This guy is a world icon, not just a Filipino."

He added that the book will also show that there is more to Pacquiao than just boxing.

It’s a book about Manny in the ring and outside the ring. He’s a very complicated guy; he has interest in helping people...He’s great for an author like me because there's a lot to talk about,” said Poole.
