Wedding bells for Mayweather after arrest?

source: abs-cbnnews.com

After being released on bail following his arrest on a theft charge stemming from a domestic violence complaint filed by his former lover, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is back in the headlines with news of his upcoming wedding to his current flame.

Mayweather’s pal, American rapper 50 Cent, broke the news of wedding bells via his Twitter account.

Wow just got off the phone with Floyd. He's getting married,” 50 Cent said.

The rapper-actor added that he was shocked when Mayweather asked him to be his best man.

The undefeated American fighter, however, made no formal announcement of his wedding plans on his Twitter account.

Meantime, 50 Cent said in a radio interview that Mayweather’s new romance is probably one reason why the boxer and his former girlfriend, Josie Harris, are embroiled in a controversy.

“The people don’t understand the issue that he’s having with his son’s mom is stemming from the new girl,” 50 cent told DJ Whoo Kid of Sirius Satellite Radio station Shade45, as quoted by Ben Thompson of FightHype.com.

Mayweather was arrested on Friday (Saturday in Manila) for being accused of taking an iPhone from Harris, the mother of his 3 children.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Harris claimed that Mayweather pulled her hair, punched her in the head and twisted her arm while she screamed for their children to call 911. Police said that Harris was treated at a Las Vegas hospital for minor injuries.

Mayweather’s lawyer, Richard Wright, denied such allegations.

For his part, 50 Cent commented: “For you to have 3 children by a woman, be taking care of them completely, and for her to send you to jail over a damn iPhone… I'm like, see, as soon as they said domestic violence, they would think that Floyd actually attacked her because boxing is probably the most violent sport outside maybe MMA, you know what I'm saying?”

“But he didn't touch that girl,” the rapper stressed.

Mayweather, who was released on $3,000 bail, could face up to 5 years in state prison if he is convicted of taking items valued at less than $2,500. His initial court appearance is on November 9.

Mayweather was supposed to face 7-division world champion Manny Pacquiao on November 13 but negotiations for their super fight fell apart. – With reports from FightHype.com and Agence France-Presse
