PHILIPPINE VOLCANOES STUN DEFENDING CHAMPS KOREA IN SHANGHAI RUGBY SEVENS

The Philippine “Volcanoes” rugby team has shocked defending champions and No. 1 seeds South Korea on the opening day of the Shanghai Rugby Sevens.

The Volcanoes beat the Koreans 19-14 after earlier running roughshod over the United Arab Emirates 24-7 and loom as the team to beat.The Volcanoes were ranked No. 5 going into the tournament but showing remarkable skill and tenacity pulled off back-to-back wins to head Group 2.They will now face the team that finishes second in Group D where the teams are China, Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan.Group B is composed of powerhouse Japan, Thailand and Chinese-Taipei while Group C is made up of Hongkong, Malaysia and Mongolia.
