Loyola triumphs over Agila

The Sparks go on a scoring spree against Agila,despite the scorching heat, the goals just kept on coming as Loyola Meralco Sparks tramples over Agila MSA and earned their victory.

The onslaught started slow but aggressive. Six minutes in, Phil Younghusband was ready to take the lead with his free kick, however, it missed. The moments after were a combination of attacks from Alvaro Castiella, Curt Dizon, James Younghusband and Phil.

35 minutes into the game, the Phil Younghusband show started. The trigger was pulled when James was fouled inside the penalty box. Phil took the penalty kick and the Sparks escalated quickly. Three minutes after, the bond between two brothers paid off as their combination led to another goal by Phil. Just as the half-time whistle was about to be blown, Dizon fed Phil with a spectacular pass that ended with a powerful strike by the Azkals captain and he completed his hat trick within 10 minutes.

The second half started with the Sparks immediately controlling the tempo. Castiella started the barrage, but the Spaniard was unable to find the back of the net. 52 minutes in, James unleashed a magnificent goal from the keeper’s right. Another goal from the Sparks captain followed eight minutes after.

Akira Miyayama joined the scoring spree after chipping in a short shot from an angle. Two minutes after, Jinggoy Valmayor took Phil’s failed opportunity and converted it to his own. Miyayama added his second with an acrobatic volley moments later, with Valmayor adding to his tally as well. Few seconds after Valmayor’s goal, Miyayama completed his hat-trick. Despite nearing its end, the Sparks still searched for more and Daniel Gadia concluded the game with another goal.

With the team scoring 11 goals and keeping a clean sheet, head coach Simon McMenemy was impressed and commended the team’s hard work, especially from the the youth.

“I think it shows our depth when we have our young ones available. It shows that we have good players that could come off the bench. A player like Aki, who has not had much game time, he’s been up and down in training, but he comes on and scored three great goals. Jinggoy comes in and scores twice. Gadia comes in and starts dominating the game,” said McMenemy.
