Rene Alvarado pulled a convincing win against past Jason Velez

Rene Alvarado of Managua, Nicaragua outmuscled former Puerto Rican prospect Jason Velez in a 10 round non-title fight held in Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California, USA promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. 

Alvarado landed more telling blows throughout the fight and throws more punches than taller Velez. 

Velez was wobbled in a few time and was forced to trade punches with the Nicaraguan who is more comfortable in toe to toe action.  

One judge was questionably favored Velez and scored the bout 96-94 but the two other judges score about 96-94 and 97-93.

Velez drops to 23-3-1,16 losing 3 fight in a row and needs more time to recover his body from the damages he got from the last three hard battles including fight with ronny rios and Jojo Diaz while Alvarado goes to 24-7,16 who will be back in the mix with top contenders of Featherweight division,
