The Rising Star
Scottie Thompson has been a very significant piece in Ginebra's hot streak in the 2016 PBA Governor's Cup. Known as a triple-double machine back in his NCAA days, Thompson contributes an all around performance for the crowd favorites as he averages near to 5 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Addition to that is his game-changing ability. It is very evident that the flow of the Kings' offense is smooth every time he is on the court.
Scottie Thompson was given more minutes this conference and a higher role than before. He even made it to the all-star starting line-up. He creates opportunities for his team mates and can score especially on the fast break. Another thing that I like about Scottie is his basketball IQ. It continues to grow as he learns the brand of basketball in the PBA.
Thompson is not only known as a point guard with great passing skills and high basketball IQ. As I have said earlier, he is a triple-double machine back in the NCAA. He rebounds the ball well due to his vertical and intelligence to predict where the ball will go every time it bounces off the ring. He also establishes position inside when he knows that their current ball handler is going to take the shot.
Ginebra is already one of the teams with the advantage when it comes to rebounds because of their tall line up and a very athletic forward in Japeth Aguilar. They also have the tallest player in the league which is Greg Slaughter. With the addition of a high-rebounding guard, the players will take shots confidently as they know that someone will get them an offensive rebound. Thompson's presence of mind makes Ginebra a more dangerous team than before.
Scottie is continuously growing and will surely grow more. He might even be the "next big thing" for Barangay Ginebra. All the fans are expected to cheer him every game and support him all the way so that he will be able to gain more motivation to improve his game further. He will definitely be a force to be noticed for the next years of basketball.
