The other two quarterfinal ties of the EFL Cup kicked off last midnight.
Arsenal 0-2 Southampton
Coming in to the match a weak Arsenal team has been fielded by their coach Arsene Wenger, and it proved to be their downfall as Southampton were already up 1-0 after just 13 minutes thanks to a goal by Jordy Clasie after following up the ball after it was blocked by the Arsenal defender. In the 38th minute the Saints doubled their lead after hounding the Arsenal players in their own half forcing their defenders to make errors which was taken advantage by Southampton when Bertrand put his side on top 2-0. The score remained the same until the end.
Manchester United 4-1 West Ham United
With them way behind in the race for winning the Premier League title, it was expected that Man United will attempt to win the league cup once again to add to their silverware collection. And in just 2 minutes the Red Devils were already up 1-0 thanks to Zlatan Ibrahimovic who just slides the ball past the West Ham keeper. However the Hammers managed to equalize the match in the 35th minute when Ashley Fletcher take advantage when De Gea's spills the save on the first shot by Payet to allow Fletcher to get to the loose ball. However another early goal in the 2nd half for Man United put them up 2-1 when Mkitharyan made his 2nd assist of the game, this time assiting the ball to Martial. In the 62nd minute Martial once again scored to make the score 3-1. Ibrahimovic closed out the game with a goal on stoppage time when he scored an easy goal inside the box from a great Herrera's cross.
EFL Cup Semi-Finals draw
The Semi-Finals will be played over two legs home and away with the winner will be decided by which team scored more goals on aggregate over two legs.
