Nietes Vying to Make History Again

Donnie "Ahas" Nietes is about to make his second appearance as a flyweight when he faces IBF # 4 rated flyweight Komgrich Nantapech (22-3-0 15 KOs) of Thailand on April 29. Though already beaten by stablemate Albert Pagara and former title contender Froilan Saludar respectively, Namtapech is still a dangerous customer to brush off.

Coming from a 10 fight winning streak, the Thai is quite confident that an upset is not farfetched bearing in mind that a compatriot has recently pulled a monumental upset against the then number 1 pound for pound fighter in the world, Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzales.

But Nietes (39-1-4 22 KOs) is the type who leaves no stones unturned in preparing for his fights, Ahas does his homework meticulously and applies them with precision as shown in most of his performances. If he gets past through Nantapech, he will clinch the IBF Flyweight Championship belt, his third championship in as many divisions.

The win will further seal his legacy as one of the greatest fighters the Philippines has ever produced and will make him the 4th boxer to win championships in at least 3 different weight divisions. The other three are Nonito Donaire, Gerry PeƱalosa and Manny Pacquiao, not a bad company to keep at all.

The fight will be the main event for ALA Promotions' "Pinoy Pride 40: Domination" card which will also feature featherweight prospect Mark 'Magnifico' Magsayo ( 15-0-0, 11 KOs ) and hard-hitting super bantamweight Jeo Santisima (12- 2-0 11KOs).
