SanMan Boxing: Main Characters in “Road to Stardom” Ready to Rumble

MINDFUL of how high the stakes are, the main protagonists in the upcoming “Road to Stardom” fight card are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that their respective missions are accomplished.

Jade Bornea, Thai boxer Jakkrawut Majoogoen, Ben Mananquil and Rhey Waminal are all good to go for the September 9 fight card at the Polomolok Gym in Polomolok, South Cotabato.

“I am ready for war on September 9,” said Bornea (8W-0L-0D, 5KOs), who will be defending his IBF Youth super flyweight belt against Majoogoen (19W-1L-0D, 11KOs).

Majoogoen, a former WBC World youth champion, is likewise ready to pull off a major surprise.

“I am on my light training now and I’m ready to shock Bornea 10 days from now,” said Majoogoen.

Bornea said he has been working hard to overcome his highly touted opponent.

“I have been training hard for this bout. I ran in the mountains three times a week to prepare myself for a long haul,” he said.

Mananquil (14W-1L-2D, 3KOs) and Waminal (11W-1L-0D, 6KOS) will face each other in the main undercard, a duel that has created some fireworks just a few days after their showdown was finalized.

The camp of Waminal fired the first shots when ALA Boxing Gym trainer Michael Domingo described Mananquil an easy target and that his ward will definitely go for a knockout.

“I am 100 percent ready for Waminal. I used as my motivation what Waminal and his coach told the media that he is going to knock me out. But let’s see on September 9. I can’t wait,” said Mananquii.

Getting into best shape isn’t a problem for Waminal.

“Waminal is close to 100 percent being physically ready. We have slowed down in our training and we are confident he can meet the 118-pound weight limit,” said Domingo.

Waminal sparred with Virgil Vitor and Jonas Sultan as part of his preparations against Waminal, said Domingo.

“Our target is to really go for a knockout,” declared Domingo.

The undercard fights will be led by Randy Petalcorin (26W-2L-1D, 19KOs), who will battle Jetly Purisima (21W-23L-4D, 7KOs) in an eight-round duel under the 110-pound division.
