50 Years of PBA Basketball! See the New Golden Logo That Has Fans Talking!

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has unveiled a new all-gold logo to commemorate its 50th anniversary on April 9, 2025. The logo features the letters "PBA50" in gold, with the silhouette of a dribbling player now in black, symbolizing the league's rich history since its inception in 1975.

The PBA Board, led by Chairman Ricky Vargas and Commissioner Willie Marcial, officially presented the logo at the TV5 Launchpad Building in Mandaluyong. They were joined by Deputy Commissioner Eric Castro, as well as TV5 and Cignal executives, including Jane Basas, Guido Zaballero, and Sienna Olaso. PBA legends, such as former MVP Allan Caidic, also graced the event as part of the selection panel for the 10 additional players who will complete the league’s prestigious “50 Greatest” list.

Commissioner Marcial announced that the new logo will be featured as patches on players' jerseys starting with the semifinals of the PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup. Game officials and league executives will also sport the new logo during games.

In addition to the logo launch, the PBA has outlined several initiatives to celebrate its golden year:

  • Community Engagement: In collaboration with the Rain or Shine organization, the league plans to refurbish basketball courts in various barangays across the country.

  • All-Star Weekend: Scheduled from May 2 to 4 in Davao del Norte, featuring players from the Mindanao region.

  • Season 50 Opening: Set for October 5 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

These initiatives aim to strengthen the league's connection with its fan base and honor its legacy. Chairman Vargas emphasized the importance of redefining the relationship between the league, its teams, and the public.

Fan reactions to the new logo have been mixed. Some appreciate the golden design as a fitting tribute to the league's milestone, while others feel it could have been more innovative. On social media platforms, discussions have emerged debating the design's modernity and its representation of the league's evolution over five decades.

Key figures within the PBA community have expressed their support for the new logo and the planned celebrations. Former MVP Allan Caidic highlighted the significance of honoring the league's history and the players who have contributed to its success. Commissioner Marcial reiterated the league's commitment to engaging with fans and communities throughout the anniversary year.

As the PBA approaches this significant milestone, the golden anniversary logo and the accompanying initiatives reflect the league's dedication to celebrating its past while looking forward to the future.
