Nico Ali Walsh—grandson of the legendary Muhammad Ali—has publicly opposed proposed revisions to the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act (Ali Act). The amendments, backed by the TKO Group (UFC and WWE’s parent company) and introduced in the U.S. House by Reps. Brian Jack and Sharice Davids, aim to modernize boxing regulations, revive its popularity, and introduce measures like mandatory medical exams, minimum payouts, and new promotional frameworks
However, Nico Ali Walsh voiced strong opposition on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“As an Ali, I am completely against modifying the Muhammad Ali Act. My grandfather fought for this law to protect boxers from being exploited. If it’s removed, promoters take control while boxers get paid less. Keep the law and protect the boxers who risk their lives.” EssentiallySportsbeIN SPORTS
Supporters argue the revisions would bring much-needed innovation and oversight, but critics—including Walsh—warn they could erode boxer protections and pave the way for monopolistic control akin to the UFC’s model
