The Dallas Mavericks will open training camp next week without defensive anchor Dereck Lively II, as the 22-year-old center has yet to receive medical clearance following right foot surgery. Lively, who was limited to just seven appearances last season before being shut down in December, is still progressing through rehabilitation drills with no concrete regular-season debut timetable set. While front-office officials maintain they are not discouraged by his recovery, Dallas will be forced to lean heavily on Daniel Gafford and their frontline depth early on.
