The University of the East Red Warriors made an emergency coaching pivot, appointing former PBA guard Paulo Hubalde as interim head coach following Chris Gavina's sudden exit. Hubalde takes the helm of a program currently trapped in an agonizing 23-game losing streak dating back to Season 87.
Gavina stepped down to pursue overseas coaching opportunities after UE's 98–87 loss to UST dropped them to 0-3 this season. Hubalde, who starred in the collegiate ranks before logging a decorated professional career in the PBA and MPBL, held his first team practice on Wednesday. He challenged the Red Warriors to reset their defensive identity and eliminate late-game fourth-quarter breakdowns. UE's athletic director affirmed full institutional support for Hubalde as the squad looks to finally break the streak against Ateneo this coming Saturday.
