Andales Faces Kataoka as Ohashi Eyes a Rapid World Title Bid | Powcast Boxing Daily

ArAr Andales can leave Tokyo with the regional belt that Raito Kataoka hopes will accelerate his route to a world title.

Naoya Inoue’s promoter has answered Robert Garcia, while Amanda Serrano’s farewell will make another statement about round length.

1. Andales stands inside Kataoka’s ambitious timetable

Kataoka is already discussing what could follow his third professional fight. At Wednesday’s weigh-in, the Japanese prospect described today’s vacant OPBF light flyweight championship bout as a ticket toward a world title challenge. Gym chairman Hideyuki Ohashi also indicated he would consider that next step with a victory, Nikkan Sports reported. It is an ambition, with no world title opponent or agreement announced.

That gives fresh meaning to yesterday’s Andales watchlist entry. Andales has already challenged for a world championship, while Kataoka is attempting to move quickly through the professional ranks. Both made weight, with the Filipino at 48.4 kilograms and Kataoka at 48.8. For Filipino fans, the opportunity is tangible: the same regional belt that could advance Japan’s prospect would also give Andales a valuable title of his own. The next career step still has to be earned against him.

2. Ohashi answers Garcia, but the contract remains the real issue

Ohashi’s Wednesday update contained both optimism and a rebuke. He said negotiations for Inoue to face Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez were advancing toward March 2027, then rejected Garcia’s earlier public demand for a contract by saying discussions were taking place between promoters, BoxingScene’s Tom Ivers reported. Japanese reporting independently documented Ohashi’s positive assessment of the talks.

The new development after our earlier coverage of Garcia requesting an Inoue offer is the response from Inoue’s promoter. Garcia also manages Rodriguez, so reducing his interest to that of a trainer misses part of his role. Powcast’s view: the public disagreement concerns who handles the process; it does not establish that negotiations have collapsed. Neither a confident update nor agreement on a preferred month substitutes for announced contractual terms.

3. Serrano makes her farewell about the rules as well as home

Amanda Serrano’s final fight will carry a deliberate choice of format. Most Valuable Promotions announced Wednesday that she will defend her WBA and WBO featherweight titles against Skye Falzon in San Juan on January 9, 2027, over 12 three-minute rounds. Serrano has long advocated the option of competing over the same round length and distance as men’s world championship bouts.

The announcement also gives her retirement a destination beyond the last bell. MVP says she will remain involved with the company after her fighting career ends, supporting opportunities for women in boxing. Falzon, meanwhile, described the bout as a chance to establish her own standing, rather than simply share the occasion. A farewell can honor Serrano’s career while still leaving her opponent a championship to pursue.
