FILIPINO COACHES BELONG ON THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE! 🏀
Congratulations to Coach Ariel Vanguardia, who is now part of the coaching staff of Vanguard University in California, USA, serving as an Assistant Coach of its men's basketball team!
This is another well-deserved milestone for a Filipino basketball mind who has spent nearly three decades building his coaching career.
From leading the Westports Malaysia Dragons to the 2016 ASEAN Basketball League championship, earning ABL Coach of the Year honors, guiding JRU to the NCAA Finals, and serving as head coach of Phoenix and Blackwater in the PBA, Coach Ariel has certainly paid his dues.
He was also given an opportunity to join the Atlanta Hawks' NBA Summer League coaching staff in 2024, further expanding his international experience.
What makes this achievement special is that it goes beyond one coach's success.
It's another testament that Filipino coaches have the knowledge, experience, basketball IQ, and leadership to compete and thrive on the international stage.
We often celebrate Filipino players making it overseas, but our coaches deserve that same recognition. Our basketball talent isn't limited to those playing on the court. We have brilliant minds on the sidelines, too.
I've had the opportunity to talk basketball with Coach Ariel, and his passion for the game, continuous learning, and willingness to share his knowledge are qualities worth recognizing.
Filipino basketball is not just about producing great players. We can produce world-class coaches, too.
Congratulations again, Coach Ariel! Keep representing Philippine basketball and opening doors for the next generation of Filipino coaches.
Boom Boom Pow! 🇵🇭🏀
