Powcast Boxing Daily: Carl Jammes Martin Joins Canelo Card as Stevenson Accepts Haney Weight Offer

Powcast Media Team October 09, 2026 0 Comments

Carl Jammes Martin has landed a place on the Canelo Alvarez and Christian Mbilli card, while Shakur Stevenson has accepted the proposed weight for a Devin Haney showdown. Today’s updates also include another Jermall Charlo setback, Dmitry Bivol’s unsigned next fight and Jake Paul’s medical clearance.

1. Carl Jammes Martin Gets David Picasso on Canelo Card

Carl Jammes Martin has been included on the newly announced October 31 undercard for Canelo Alvarez against Christian Mbilli in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with David Picasso named as his opponent. The announcement puts a Filipino contender on a major international show whose main event features Mbilli defending the WBC super middleweight championship against Alvarez. Three additional world title fights have been announced: Jaime Munguia against Nikita Zon for the WBA super middleweight belt, Rafael Espinoza against Lorenzo Parra for the WBO featherweight title, and Lindolfo Delgado against Arthur Biyarslanov for the vacant IBF junior welterweight championship. Munguia’s opponent is a meaningful change from the earlier report that his team was pursuing Keiber Gonzalez. The new announcement names Zon, who has 12 wins, one draw and 10 knockouts, against Munguia’s 46 wins, two losses and 35 knockouts. It does not explain the resolution of Munguia’s mandatory obligations, so that remains a separate issue. No championship has been specified for Martin against Picasso.

2. Stevenson Accepts 145 Pounds, but Haney Fight Still Needs a Contract

Shakur Stevenson has publicly accepted Devin Haney’s proposed 145 pound catchweight, moving their negotiations beyond the unresolved weight dispute covered in our October 6 edition. Haney had offered that limit for a December meeting without a rehydration clause, while Stevenson previously wanted 144 pounds and a restriction on weight regained after the weigh in. Stevenson’s response accepts the weight, but he has not clearly addressed whether he is abandoning that additional condition. Neither fighter has announced a signed contract, confirmed date or venue. Stevenson brings 25 wins and 11 knockouts after beating Teofimo Lopez for the WBO junior welterweight championship in January. Haney has 33 wins and 15 knockouts and won the WBO welterweight title against Brian Norman Jr. last November. Their public exchange is real progress, but it should not yet be presented as a fully finalized fight.

3. Charlo Withdraws Again as Resendiz Steps In

Jermall Charlo has withdrawn through a training injury from his October 17 fight against Koen Mazoudier, with former WBA super middleweight champion Jose Armando Resendiz stepping in on the Las Vegas card headlined by Sebastian Fundora against Ermal Hadribeaj. The change preserves Mazoudier’s opportunity to compete while extending Charlo’s inactivity. This is the second disruption to their proposed meeting in three months after an earlier Australian date fell apart over Charlo’s visa difficulties. Resendiz enters with 16 wins, three losses and 11 knockouts, having beaten Caleb Plant for the WBA belt before losing it to Jaime Munguia. The replacement is a significant opponent change rather than a cancellation of the entire show. Fundora’s WBC junior middleweight defense and Brandon Figueroa’s featherweight title fight against Tomoki Kameda remain on the program.

4. Bivol Starts Preparing for Smith While Awaiting Paperwork

Dmitry Bivol says he has begun training in the United Arab Emirates for a proposed December 12 defense against Callum Smith in Russia, but he has not received or signed the contract. Speaking on The Ring’s latest Inside The Ring interview, the unified light heavyweight champion described Smith as a tall, motivated challenger who wants a championship opportunity. Bivol has 25 wins, one loss and 12 knockouts, while Smith has 31 wins, two losses and 22 knockouts. Bivol returned from back surgery in May to outpoint Michael Eifert, following his victory over Artur Beterbiev in their February 2025 rematch. He also expressed interest in another Beterbiev fight and possible meetings with Canelo Alvarez or David Benavidez. Those ambitions are future possibilities, while the immediate distinction is that he is preparing for Smith without a completed contract.

5. Bahdi Predicts a Stoppage in His First World Title Fight

Lucas Bahdi has promised to stop Floyd Schofield when they meet for the vacant WBA lightweight championship on October 10 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. In a new interview with The Ring, the Canadian described the contest as the opportunity he has worked toward throughout his career and said he expects to adjust to whatever Schofield brings. Bahdi has 20 wins and 15 knockouts, while Schofield has 19 wins and 13 knockouts, leaving both unbeaten ahead of their first meeting. Bahdi’s rise accelerated when he knocked out Ashton Sylve in the sixth round in July 2024 despite trailing earlier in the fight. Schofield’s last appearance produced a rapid stoppage of former champion Tevin Farmer. Bahdi’s prediction adds fresh prefight context to a previously announced fixture, but the promised knockout remains his assessment rather than an established outcome.

6. Jake Paul Receives Clearance for a Boxing Return

Jake Paul has been medically cleared to return to boxing, according to Most Valuable Promotions cofounder Nakisa Bidarian’s announcement on Thursday. The update follows almost 10 months away after Anthony Joshua knocked him out in the sixth round last December, leaving him with a broken jaw that required surgery immediately afterward and another procedure in February. Paul also posted a list of desired opponents that included Canelo Alvarez, Francis Ngannou, Conor McGregor, Ryan Garcia and Deontay Wilder. Those names describe his ambitions, not signed fights, and some would involve different combat sports or substantial differences in size and experience. No new opponent, event date or venue accompanied the clearance announcement. The concrete development is his reported medical approval to resume competition, with matchmaking still to follow.
