On social media, undefeated Ifugao boxer Carl Jammes Martin has been giving fans hints that a major fight was coming. While many were hoping it would finally be a big opportunity, only a few truly expected something of this magnitude, especially since Martin has yet to consistently compete in what many would consider high-profile fights.
“Mangarap para sa Pamilya at Bayan, lumaban nang buong Puso, at dalhin ang bandila ng Pilipinas tungo sa tagumpay. 🇵ðŸ‡
Mabuhay tayong lahat! Hagiyo!”- Carl Jammes Martin on Facebook
Martin travelled to the United States months ago to train after Sean Gibbons and his camp agreed to continue working together. Still undefeated with 28 wins and only 27 years old, Martin has long been asking for bigger fights because he believes he is ready for the next level.
He has even mentioned Naoya Inoue, “The Monster,” saying he felt ready enough to deserve that kind of opportunity and genuinely believed he could win.
Now, Martin finally gets his wish. Not against The Monster, but against a fighter who could bring him one step closer to that level.
Carl Jammes Martin vs. David Picasso
Mexico’s David Picasso, 26, owns a record of 33 wins, one defeat and one draw, and is considered one of the Mexico's promising young boxing stars. His lone defeat came against none other than Naoya Inoue.
Now, Picasso is tasked with facing “Wonder Boy” Carl Jammes Martin and testing whether the Filipino contender is truly ready before he goes Monster hunting.
The Mexico-Philippines boxing rivalry is about to be reignited as two of the sport’s young stars get an opportunity to compete on one of the biggest boxing events of the year.
Martin and Picasso will meet on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs. Christian Mbilli in Saudi Arabia on October 31.
Next Generation of Stars?
Two boxers from two different nations, both looking to reach the top.
Picasso is searching for another opportunity to work his way back toward a world title, while Martin wants to prove that he belongs among the elite fighters of the division.
On October 31, aside from Canelo vs. Mbilli, the stacked card will also feature names such as Jaime Munguia, Rafael Espinoza and Lindolfo Delgado, as the Middle East once again becomes the stage for a major Mexico vs. the World boxing event.
For Carl Jammes Martin, this could be the fight that finally changes everything.
