1. Charly Suarez has a possible route through Lomachenko
Top Rank has a deal with Vasiliy Lomachenko. It hasn’t announced a fight with Charly Suarez. The former three division champion signed a multiyear agreement through his own Loma Power Promotions and will return at 130 pounds. That puts him in the same division as Suarez, whose place in the title picture was already clear in our October coverage of O’Shaquie Foster’s unification win.
Bob Arum told the Daily Tribune that February 13 was the target for a Suarez fight, possibly in Las Vegas. The Ring also reported that Suarez could be the opponent. The fresh piece is Lomachenko’s signature on the promotional deal. For Suarez, a fight with Lomachenko could put his title case in front of a much bigger audience, but it would also put a former champion between him and Foster.
2. Miel Fajardo wants to hit 112 before takeoff
Miel Fajardo wants to reach the flyweight limit before he leaves Manila on November 20, six days before he challenges IBF champion Masamichi Yabuki. Matchmaker Anthony Arieta told the Daily Tribune’s Nick Giongco that Fajardo weighed 120 pounds on Thursday and wants to land in Japan without a substantial cut still ahead of him. Arieta pointed to the colder conditions expected in Tokyo as part of the calculation.
That adds a concrete target to our November 5 report on Fajardo’s final hard training week. The trip gives him time to settle before the biggest fight of his career. Getting close to the limit at home would let him use more of that time for the fight itself.
3. Mizuki Hiruta gives MVP a champion at 115
Most Valuable Promotions signed unbeaten WBO and Ring junior bantamweight champion Mizuki Hiruta. The Japanese southpaw has made seven successful defenses, most recently beating Mai Soliman by decision in Egypt in May. She already trains in Southern California with Manny Robles, so the signing builds on an international career already in motion.
MVP says it wants to stage an event in Japan and will announce her debut with the company separately. The first opponent will tell us more about the deal than the signing itself: a champion with seven defenses has earned a matchup that can move the division forward.
4. Willy Hutchinson still has the notebook
At Thursday’s final press conference, Willy Hutchinson said he still has the notebook in which he wrote down his ambition to win the WBC light heavyweight title at age 13, BoxingScene reported. He gets that chance in Manchester against Joshua Buatsi, who dropped him twice in their 2024 fight and still had to settle for a split decision.
Hutchinson’s late rally is the useful part of that first fight. He showed he could get back into it after losing big rounds. In the rematch, the cleaner route is to bank those rounds before he needs another rally.
