Victor Wembanyama Blocks Three Shots on One Possession in a 52-Point Night

Victor Wembanyama blocked three shots in 13 seconds and still had to come back from a rolled ankle to finish Dallas. Tim Cone put a date on Gilas camp, and a Bam Adebayo screen gave Klay Thompson the last word in overtime.

1. Wembanyama makes Dallas shoot three times on one possession

Victor Wembanyama swatted Cooper Flagg and P.J. Washington out of bounds in the second quarter. Dallas kept the ball both times, so he blocked a third shot on the same possession. This time De’Aaron Fox collected it. Three blocks in 13 seconds explain how Wembanyama could dominate a game in which San Antonio still needed every one of his 52 points.

In our earlier look at how Wembanyama chooses which moves to use, he put winning first. Against Dallas, the finish was simple: after rolling his ankle and returning with 6:05 left, he scored on two late putbacks and made the go ahead free throw with 24.2 seconds left. The NBA says he’s the first player since Bob McAdoo in 1974 to reach 50 points, 20 rebounds and five blocks in one game. He finished with 52, 24 and eight.

2. Gilas has a camp date, but the lineup is still open

Tim Cone told Fastbreak on Thursday that November 20 is both the camp start and the release date for players based in Japan and South Korea. That gives Gilas one week before Syria on November 27. The release schedule matters for players such as Goyang Sono’s Kevin Quiambao, but a date on the calendar is no guarantee that Altiri Chiba center Kai Sotto will be fit to play.

Cone also told Fastbreak he had no new availability update on Justin Brownlee. That keeps the issue from our November 4 look at Gilas’ contingency plan alive: with a short camp, the team needs a rotation it can rehearse even if its preferred lineup takes longer to settle.

3. Bam Adebayo frees Klay Thompson for the winner

Giannis Antetokounmpo grabbed a defensive rebound with 3.8 seconds left in overtime, then inbounded after Miami’s timeout. The pass found Klay Thompson in the left corner because Bam Adebayo had screened along the baseline. Erik Spoelstra singled out that screen afterward, NBC Sports reported. Thompson hit the three with one second left to beat the Clippers.

It was Thompson’s eighth three and capped his first 30 point game since April 2024. Adebayo scored 35, but the biggest thing he did on the final possession was make sure somebody else could shoot.

4. Derrick White finds the lane when Boston needs a closer

With Jayson Tatum sitting out and Milwaukee having erased a 22 point deficit, Boston found its finish in a scramble. After a Derrick White miss, Neemias Queta fought Myles Turner for the rebound. Baylor Scheierman got the loose ball and found White cutting for a layup and a foul, the Celtics’ Taylor Snow reported.

White followed with a floater and scored seven of Boston’s final 10 points. Paul George supplied 25 on the night, but the late offense worked because White kept moving after a miss and Boston found him before Milwaukee could reset.
