They were quick to mock Filipino fans, but context still matters. What began as a shove escalated when an Australian player chose to retaliate with a punch. Who does that? In that moment, did anyone seriously expect the other players to simply stand by and watch, especially given the tensions and incidents that had already led to it? Also Jeff Horn may have won on paper, but history has a way of separating results from reality. Everyone who watched the fight knows who truly absorbed the punishment that night. The judging in the Pacquiao–Horn bout remains, to this day, indefensible. It was criminal. To be clear, violence is never something we condone, and hopefully it never happens again. I personally like the current Gilas roster under Coach Tim Cone. It’s just unfortunate that we were missing one key piece— Kai Sotto . Honestly, Coach Tim has done a tremendous job holding this group together, ensuring continuity in the program. Yes, many say we need to expand, improve, and tweak a few names here and there, and that’s valid—but the truth is, this current team is good. The problem? That one missing piece meant we fell just short of expectations. Gilas Pilipinas finally secured a morale‑boosting 103–98 victory over the Macau Black Bears in their farewell tune‑up at the Smart Araneta Coliseum before departing for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup in Jeddah.
