Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire (25-1, 17 KO’s) says he will whip Fernando “KO-Chulito” Montiel (44-2-2, 34 KO’s) when they clash for the Mexican’s WBC and WBO bantamweight titles at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel & Casino on Feb. 19.

Donaire told the Inquirer that his training has been “fantastic,” adding, “I’m in tremendous shape and ready to go.”

The WBC Continental Americas bantamweight champion said he has sparred twice this week, going twelve rounds each session and “felt really good.”

Among his sparring partners were Jesus Prada and undefeated flyweight Austreberto Juarez, who has a record of 10 wins with 2 knockouts.

Donaire said he is “in tremendous shape and I am ready to go fifty rounds if I have to.” He said trainer Robert Garcia was “very confident.”

Donaire is currently ranked Ranked No. 5 in the prestigious The Ring Magazine pound-for-pound list, one that is topped by countryman Manny Pacquiao.

When informed that Montiel was training harder than ever Donaire replied, “he has to, he has to or else I am going to beat the crap out of him.”

Responding to Montiel’s reported game-plan to be aggressive and pressure him, Donaire said “that’s not going to be a problem. Its actually good for me because I’m already expecting. He has to come in otherwise he’s going to get peppered by my fists.”

Donaire said his weight is down from 125 pounds to 122 and he won’t have any problems making the bantamweight limit of 118 lb.
