WE RISE PROGRAM FACT SHEET

Objective:

  • Participation – Introduce and provide opportunities to encourage participation for children and youths aged 6-9, 10-14 and 15-19 to become a part of a Basketball Program – developing young athletes, creating a passion and exposing them to the values, qualities and skills required to succeed in basketball
  • Education – Address the need for youths to receive skills and developmental age appropriate coaching
  • Progression – Further encourage children and youths with increased potential for development to achieve a higher level of performance by providing consistent development models that teaches skills, knowledge and attitudes that are required for athletes to safely progress and maximize development in the sport of basketball.
Vision
To create opportunities for all aspiring young athletes to:
  • Learn and play basketball formally, through qualified coaching and programming
  • Train to compete in a supportive and development-focused environment
  • Improve their level of skills to be able to compete at higher level of play

Participants will learn basketball drills dedicated to conditioning and skills development before adapting them to recreational play. They will also be taught valuable lessons that will be applicable not only on the basketball court but in their daily lives as well.

Through this Basketball clinic, participants will grow and learn about more than basketball at the We Rise program. While they practice ball-handling, dribbling, and shooting, they will also learn about self-esteem, teamwork, and the value of hard work.

Program Phases
Barangay coaches in the Tenement community start off the program by identifying 25 participants aged 6-9 years old for the beginners division and 50 participants aged 10-14 for the intermediate division. All selected participants will undergo three phases of the basketball program

1st Phase – Basketball Clinics – Focused on teaching the fundamentals of Basketball and re-enforcing good and positive attitude and personality.
2nd Phase – Basketball Camp –Dedicated to developing skills to improve individual abilities and team chemistry.
3rd Phase – Basketball League –To put to test acquired and developed skills and abilities, playing against different teams. Winner of the organized games will form a barangay team to join inter-barangay summer tournaments.

* A Train the Coaches program to develop and reinforce the local or in-house coach of the community will be incorporated at points during the first two phases to ensure that coaches remain relevant in developing the program according to the pace of development among participants.
