Shoe of the Week: ASICS Gel-Nimbus 18 "The Cloud Runner"





For more than a decade, the ASICS Gel Nimbus line remains as one of the top picks of Neutral runners around the world. Now on its 18th iteration, the globally renowned Japanese sports manufacturer ASICS presents the new updates on the original “Cloud Runner”.

 What's new with the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 18? The brand made 3 updates to watch out for:


1.) New GEL placement on the midsole area:



ASICS redesigned the midsole of the Nimbus 18 to  provide a plushier cushioning and ride to its runner. The Asics-GEL is strategically placed at the forefoot and rearfoot area of the shoe to absorb more impact during the landing phase. The extra cushioning in the heel area and a slightly padded upper will definitely set a new level of comfort unlike before.


2.) An improved GUIDANCE LINE technology.





Based on www.peterglenn.com, the  Guidance Line of the Nimbus 18 provides support at the arch or midfoot area of the shoes. This will help improve gait efficiency of the runner  and support the feet during heel strike to toe-off phases.

The Nimbus 18 is a good option for runners who wants a premium and responsive trainer ready for the miles ahead.




 3.) A new FLUID-FIT upper
 


 The Fluid-Fit upper of the Nimbus 18 is slightly changed from the version of its predecessor. The structured overlays wraps around the foot while allowing it to stretch naturally. A lot of runners will love the seamless upper of the Nimbus 18 as it helps prevent irritation or chaffing and provides a sufficient room inside the toebox. The Heel Clutching System (see picture below) will help secure and stabilize your foot. It is a plastic external cage that will serve as the exoskeletal heel counter of the shoes located at the rearfoot region.



 INSIGHTS OF THE AUTHOR:

Despite the minor updates and being a little heavier (the Nimbus 17 is 11.3 oz while the Nimbus 18 is 12.1 oz) , I trust that the Nimbus 18 is better compared to its previous version because of it improved cushioning system. I hope this beast will be released soon here in the Philippines so I can give a more comprehensive review on this model.
