WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING - GLOBAL CHAMPIONSHIP
HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION, EVGENY EROKHIN, TO HEADLINE EVENT HOSTING VLADIMIR PUTIN

Event Scheduled for August 21 at Metro Arena in Sochi, Russia

SOCHI, RUSSIA  August 17, 2016  World Series of Fighting – Global Championship (WSOF-GC) Heavyweight Champion, Evgeny Erokhin (15-4), has been called to action to compete in front of Russian President, Vladimir Putin. WSOF Global’s Erokhin will headline a special, exclusive event to be held by League S-70 in Sochi, Russia on August 21, in honor of the President of the Russian Federation.

It is well documented the strong support that President Putin has shown MMA, a practitioner of Sambo and Judo since the age of 12. He currently holds a 6th dan (red/white belt) in Judo, as well as an 8th dan black belt in Kyokushin Kaikan Karate. He was presented the black belt in December 2009 by Japanese champion Kyokushin Karate-Do master Hatsuo Royama. He still trains at a very high level and has even held wrestling sessions with Russia’s national teams, penned a book, and starred in a DVD touting the art of grappling.

Erokhin won the inaugural WSOF Global World Heavyweight Championship back in February in Tokyo, Japan, with a first round TKO victory over former Bellator contender, Brandon Cash. Evgeny has been on a terror over the last three years with an impressive streak of ten consecutive wins via knockout, including victories over Brett Rogers, Mike Kyle, Jeff Monson, Tim Hague, and most recently Richard Odoms in last month’s WSOF-GC 3 main event in Manila, Philippines.

Erokhin, a police office in his home of Khabarovsk, will be facing what is arguably the toughest fight of his career, when he takes on former Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion, Emanuel Newton (26-10-1). This will mark the first time in his career that Newton has competed in MMA outside of North America. A victory for either fighter will certainly be a huge stepping stone in their respective career paths.

“It is an absolute honor to have our Global champion honor his home country and the President,” stated WSOF-GC President, Shawn Wright. “Erokhin has been a great competitor for us and an ambassador for our brand. He has always been humble in victory and thankful for his opportunities with our organization. It’s great to see that we have this chance to showcase one of our champions to President Putin. Hopefully this will be the spark to bring some exciting WSOF Global events to the great MMA fans of Russia in the future. ”

World Series of Fighting Global’s ultimate mission is to bring together the best athletes from countries and organizations across the world to compete for a true, globally-recognized world champion.
