Ginebra started strong but came up short in Game 1 of PBA Governor's Cup Finals
LA Tenorio set a new career high as he scored 36 points with 5 assists but it was Allen Durham with his game high 46 points that got the win for the Meralco Bolts 114-109.
The game started in favor of Ginebra as they led after the first half 53-42. It was a strong start for Barangay Ginebra as the shots were going in for the team.
It was at the second half when Meralco slowly cut the lead. They took the time to set their plays and executed very well in both sides.
The game 1 of the Governor's cup was a historic one for Jimmy Alapag as he tied Allan Caidic for the all-time leader of three-point field goals in PBA's history as he made a three from the left wing, which also took the lead from Ginebra, 101-100. Ginebra had the chance to win the game but the shots were not going in. Durham was fouled and was sent to the free-throw line but only made one free-throw.
The last possession of Ginebra in the fourth quarter went to the hot hands of LA Tenorio who made the game-tying floater. Allen Durham tried to shoot a three after inbound but did not come close.
Durham took over the first minutes of overtime as Ginebra lost the hot hands.
Ginebra and Bolts will face again on Sunday for game 2.
