The PBA Finals  🏀 opened in a packed Araneta coliseum with more than half of the crowd cheering on the Ginebra San Miguel Gin Kings 👑 to finally win another championship after season's of struggles, reshuffling and rebuilding. And GSM did not disappoint firing away and leading early on the 1st quarter. Though a poor interior defense from the Gins was noticeable you can feel that Meralco Bolts ⚡️ rookie and finals first timers Newsome and Hodge were tentative, aside from not seeing the usual explosive drives by Newsome some open shots were missed , Cliff Hodge who was expected to be one of the tormentors of Ginebra couldn't buy a basket, missing shots at point blank range. And managed only 1 point for the entire regulation, but we'll get back to him later. 😊
It was almost too good to be true for the Gin Kings as they cruise to a 12 point lead, making beautiful plays by dishing out extra passes and excellent movement without the ball. LA Tenorio had a monster game with 36 points. It was what every Ginebra fan was hoping for and for a time one would think the Bolts was overmatched and couldn't live up to the hype of being in the Finals. But came the 4th quarter, Even though the Gins showed tremendous teamwork for the first 3 quarters the Bolts stayed with them completing a 4th quarter comeback Allen Durham scoring 46 poitns lead the Bolts' electrifying return, Hugnatan who was in and out of the Meralco 5 because of inconsistent defense  came in and provided the much needed moral boost for Meralco toying with the crowd after hitting clutch jumpers, it was exactly what the Bolts needed-someone that's not afraid to mix it up and show emotion during the game. Jimmy Alapag who played sparingly made every minute of it count hitting a game changing 3 pointer giving the Bolts the lead. It looked like another Ginebra collapse but after Tenorio scored on a go ahead layup to tie the game and head to overtime. Barangay Ginebra was alive again. But after all the beautiful passing they did early on, they simply couldn't execute in OT. Durham made up for his missed free throw scoring quick baskets in OT giving them a 7 point lead in OT. Coming back to Hodge, he hit his only fieldgoal and it was a huge 3. Ending the hopes of the Ginbra fateful. It was all one on one  for the Gins in OT ..Tim Cone was furious on the bench! Firing away at Tenorio and Sol Mercado for not following the game plan. Refusing to coach since his guards don't listen. Team Manager  Al Francis Chua drawed out the final plays of GSM. It was over at this point and it was a great comeback for the Bolts ⚡️ they showed class and showed everyone that they were in it to win it, not just happy to be there. The Gins must rebound, to complete their performance for the conference but most of all for their fans who has been there through thick and thin and of course for themselves, they've been out of the top for so long, their longtime leaders Caguioa and Helterbrand now at the twilight of their careers looks like they've found a new heir in LA and Rookie sensation Scottie Thompson. This series looks to live up to its hype and be something to watch out for next 6 games.

Game 2 is tonight back the Big Dome!
