Highlights: Gilas Pilipinas Dropped First Game to Canada, Import Mike Myers Needs to Step Up

Gilas Pilipinas still need some oiling as they struggled against Canada in their first game.

The Philippines campaign in the 39th Jones Cup started on a bad note as they bowed down to the more athletic and cohesive unit of Canada in the first game inside the Taipei Peace International Basketball Hall in Taipei.

Gilas Pilipinas was very sluggish at the start as they simply could not execute a decent play. They banked on hustle and quickness in the first quarter and was just leading by one point. The rest of the game, however, was a different story as the Canadian were hitting some critical shots, led by Garret Williamson who ended up with a game high of 15 points.  Four Canadians were in double figures as they shot the lights out with 52% FG percentage in the game against 41% of the Philippines.

Ray Parks Jr, Carl Cruz and Kiefer Ravena led the Philippine team in scoring with a combined 33 point production. Import Mike Myers on the other hand only scored a measly 7 points on a 33% shooting.

Scoring by quarter: 19–20, 25–14, 22–20, 24–23
