Japan def. arch rival China in straight sets





The 19th edition of the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship which is currently being hosted in the country held one of its most awaited matches yesterday. A classic volleyball clash between two of the world's most powerful volleyball national teams, China and Japan.

The Japanese were quick to make a statement building a comfortable lead over China which they maintained for most parts of the opening set. The Chinese also failed to bag the second set as the Japanese utilized their multiple attacking options along with their signature solid defense.

The Chinese offered a challenging 3rd set as they tried to resist a quick defeat from the Japanese. The girls in blue however managed to hang on to take the thrilling 3rd set as well as the match 25-14, 25-17, 26-24.

Japan's young guns Sarina Koga, Rika Nomoto and 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Risa Shinnabe all contributed 13 points for their team. Japan also remain undefeated in the tourney winning their first two matches and has yet to drop a set so far.
